Lagos Speaker Obasa Speaks Out As Nationwide Protests Continue

The protest, slated to last ten days until August 10, has seen varying levels of unrest across the country. However, Lagos has remained notably calm.

In a statement released on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Eromosele Ebhomele, Obasa acknowledged the orderly conduct of Lagosians, commending them for adhering to legal guidelines and allowing daily activities to proceed without major disruption.

Obasa praised the protesters for their rational approach and compliance with the law, highlighting their constructive manner of expressing grievances. He assured that both state and federal governments are actively working to address these concerns and improve the current situation.

He noted that President Tinubu is implementing policies aimed at advancing Nigeria’s development and has taken steps to address food shortages, a key issue behind the protests. In Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, supported by the House of Assembly, is focusing on development and maintaining standards, including initiatives like Sunday Markets offering discounts on essential items.

Obasa also highlighted various government efforts to support residents, such as the Medical Outreach program providing free treatments, free deliveries for pregnant women, and reduced fares on government transportation.

The Speaker expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their professionalism and commended religious, traditional, and community leaders for their support.
