Lagos CP Comes Hard: Orders Detention Of Police Officers Who Brutalized Motorist

The directive came after a viral video sparked outrage, showing the officers attempting to forcibly take off the motorist’s eyeglasses over suspicions that they contained a recording device.
Confirming the action, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the entire squad involved has been disbanded.
He further disclosed that the Commissioner has established a new tactical unit that will “operate strictly by international best policing practices with zero tolerance for corruption.”

“Following a thorough preliminary investigation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the immediate detention of the entire team.
“The officers will face orderly room trial in line with disciplinary procedures, ensuring justice is served swiftly and transparently.
“In addition, the implicated tactical squad has been dissolved with immediate effect. A fresh squad has now been constituted, comprising officers who will strictly uphold international standards, operate with zero tolerance for corruption, and respect human rights and dignity at all times.”
The Command, while condemning the incident, stressed that the assault was an isolated case and does not represent the values of the Nigeria Police Force.
