The revelation came from the publicized details of contracts awarded in the second and third quarters of 2023.
The procurement deals awarded by the Lagos State government have faced criticism, particularly after Funso Doherty, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos, raised concerns about various contracts.
Doherty, via his verified X handle, criticized Sanwo-Olu for allocating N2 billion for the procurement of fans, rechargeable lights, and fridges, N18 million for chickens, and N440.75 million for a new Lexus LX 600 Bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicle for the Chief of Staff’s office during challenging economic times for Lagosians.
In response, Mr. Fatai Onafowote, the Director-General of the Public Procurement Agency, issued a statement apologizing for the lack of clarity and details in the procurement records on the agency’s website.
Onafowote clarified that the procurement of the N440.75 million bulletproof vehicle aligns with current realities.
The agency expressed regret for any misunderstandings arising from the lack of clarity in the project information, acknowledging that the unintended misinterpretations impacted both government entities and corporate partners providing services to the state.
The statement aimed to address the public’s concerns and clarify the circumstances surrounding the mentioned procurement.
