In a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the court’s decision serves as both a source of comfort and validation of the will of over eight million Nigerians who cast their votes in favor of the APC and President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
The governor emphasized that the citizens’ mandate was clearly expressed through the ballots and subsequently affirmed by the court’s ruling.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the widespread consensus among millions of Nigerians regarding President Tinubu’s mandate to lead Nigeria for four years, a trust rooted in his track record and commendable achievements during his two-term tenure as Governor of Lagos State.
He stated, “Today, we are witnessing the essence of democracy and the rule of law. In the February election earlier this year, over eight million Nigerians chose Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
While we anticipated that the election’s runners-up would display the spirit of good sportsmanship by congratulating the winner (President Tinubu), they exercised their right to challenge the election results. Now that the election results have been upheld by the Court, I hope they will act accordingly.”
