This decision was conveyed by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos, through his official Twitter account on Wednesday.

The Blue rail line commenced operations on September 4, providing transportation services between Marina and Mile 2. Governor Sanwo-Olu mentioned that the brief suspension of the metro line is intended to enhance its functionality and expand rail services by transitioning to electricity.

Starting on Monday, October 16, 2023, the number of train journeys on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will increase from 12 to 54, with plans to reach 74 trips by the end of November.

In order to facilitate this transition, train services will be temporarily halted on Saturday, October 14, following the morning peak service, and will remain closed for the entire day on Sunday, October 15, as part of the switchover to an electric system. The pause in services is being undertaken with the foremost consideration of ensuring passengers’ safety.
