Lagos Kidnap Suspect Pleads For Mercy, Claims Ransom Was Used For Children’s Education And Food (Video)

A suspected kidnapper, Tosin Oke, also known as “Old Soldier,” who was involved in the abduction of an oil magnate on Ado Road in Ajah months ago, has disclosed how he spent his share of the ransom received from the operation.

In an interview with Vanguard, Oke, speaking in Pidgin English, said, “They gave me $1,700, which I exchanged at the Bureau De Change for N1.8 million. I used part of it for my children’s school fees, feeding, and saved the rest in my account. I regret getting involved in this; I don’t even understand how I became part of it. Maybe I was bewitched.”

The oil magnate was abducted by a six-man armed gang while at his dredging site. The kidnappers took him away in a speedboat, using the waterways and firing shots to prevent anyone from intervening.

The victim’s family raised N42 million, converted into $30,000 along with an additional N100,000, to meet the kidnappers’ demands. The ransom was delivered, but three of the kidnappers—Adelaja Ikuesan, 37, Tosin Oke, 40, and Oluwabunmi Yusuf, 39—were later arrested in their hideout after dividing the money.

Oke, who has a history of involvement in bunkering and kidnapping, admitted using his share to support his family. He denied that the mansion he built in Badagry, Lagos, was funded solely by his criminal activities, asserting it was financed with contributions from his family members.

“I genuinely regret my involvement,” Oke said. “Even my family questioned me because they knew I had never been involved in anything like this before. I used to work as an agent for the police in Zone 2. What could have driven me to participate in this?”
