Lagos On The Edge: Fierce Grassroots War Set For July 12 As LASIEC Declares Election Date

This was confirmed on Friday by Tope Ojo, LASIEC’s Head of Public Affairs, through a statement released in Lagos.
According to the announcement, voters across the state will elect 57 council chairmen and 376 councillors. In the event of any rerun, it is scheduled to hold on July 19.
LASIEC has commenced preparations with the release of the Notice of Election, officially launching the electoral process. The election will cover 20 Local Government Areas, 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and 376 wards across Lagos State.
Ojo also stated that political parties must visit LASIEC headquarters to collect nomination forms for their candidates. Additionally, a crucial meeting with all registered political parties is scheduled for Tuesday.
“The Election Guidelines will be published on April 17,” Ojo noted, highlighting the next steps in the process.
Political campaigns and rallies will officially begin on April 18 and will run until July 9, allowing candidates enough time to engage with voters. Submission of nomination forms for substituted or sole candidates will be accepted between June 18 and June 25.
LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, promising equal opportunity for all political parties.
He further urged parties and aspirants to strictly follow the electoral timetable, emphasizing that the success and integrity of the elections depend on full compliance by all stakeholders.
