The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended an alleged member of a car theft syndicate known for its expertise in stealing vehicles from locations in Ogun and subsequently selling them in Lagos. According to Hundeyin, the arrest transpired when police operatives from Elere Division, engaged in a stop-and-search foot patrol along Agege Motor Road on Friday around 6:00 pm. The officers, during their routine operation, intercepted a Sienna Space Bus containing four individuals.
During the questioning of the occupants, the situation escalated as they abruptly disembarked from the vehicle and fled on foot. Pursuing the suspects, law enforcement managed to apprehend one of them identified as John, aged 28, while the others successfully evaded capture.
John, the detained suspect, asserted that he had been contracted by an unidentified fleeing suspect to drive the vehicle from Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun, to Ijora in Lagos. He also claimed that two other suspects, who remain at large, joined the vehicle on the way to Lagos before the police intervened.
Preliminary investigations disclosed that the seized vehicle had been unlawfully taken from its parked location in Kemta, Ogun. At present, the apprehended suspect and the vehicle are under police custody, with ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining members of the car theft syndicate.
