SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the command, reiterated this stance in a statement on X.com on Monday. He highlighted that obscuring number plates violates regulations designed to ensure clear visibility of plates both during the day and at night.

“Covering of number plates is against the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations,” Hundeyin stated. “Those found guilty may face fines or imprisonment. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. It is important for everyone to be aware and comply.”

He referenced specific excerpts from the regulations, emphasizing that number plates must be reflective and legible from a distance, ensuring identification is possible under varying weather conditions.

In a related development, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had previously underscored the importance of visible registration numbers on all vehicles, stressing exceptions only for designated officials using official pennants or flags.

The command urged all motorists to adhere strictly to these regulations to avoid legal consequences.
