Lagos, Rivers, Ogun, Others In NiMet’s Fresh Rainfall And Thunderstorm Forecast

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast three days of varying weather conditions, including sunshine, thunderstorms and rainfall, across different parts of Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.

According to Bush Radio Academy, NiMet disclosed this in its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, noting that different regions of the country would experience varying atmospheric conditions during the period.

The agency said northern Nigeria would record predominantly sunny weather on Monday, although patches of cloudiness are expected in some areas. Taraba State, however, could experience isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall during the afternoon and evening.

The North-Central region is expected to remain generally cloudy, with intervals of sunshine throughout the day.

In the southern parts of the country, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions mixed with periods of sunshine, with early light thunderstorms expected in parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

The weather conditions are expected to become more intense later in the day, with moderate rainfall forecast for parts of Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

Similar weather conditions are expected on Tuesday, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall predicted across several southern states, including Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Enugu and Rivers.

By Wednesday, moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

NiMet also issued safety advice to residents, warning that strong winds could accompany thunderstorms. The agency urged members of the public to secure loose objects and take precautions before and during periods of severe weather.

Residents were advised to avoid driving during heavy rainfall, disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets and stay away from tall trees because of the risk of falling branches or broken trees.

With temperatures expected to remain relatively high in some areas, Nigerians were also encouraged to stay hydrated, wear breathable clothing and remain in properly ventilated environments.

The agency further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather information to support effective operational planning and help minimise the impact of adverse weather conditions on flight operations.
