Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the launch of his book, “Headlines and Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration,” Mohammed said it highlights how government policies under Buhari’s leadership were formulated and communicated to Nigerians.

He emphasized that his long tenure in government entrusted him with the responsibility to maintain an accurate historical record.

Describing the book as a personal effort, Mohammed noted that it chronicles his work as Nigeria’s longest-serving Minister of Information and Culture, covering areas such as information, culture, tourism, and national orientation.

“For nearly eight years, I was at the heart of government communication, crisis management, national orientation, culture, and tourism,” he said. “I witnessed firsthand how decisions were made, narratives were shaped, and how misinformation often overshadowed facts. This book is about correcting misconceptions, providing context, and preserving firsthand accounts that history must not forget.”

Mohammed stressed that the publication reflects his belief that Africans should tell their own stories to prevent distortion.

He added that readers would gain insights into critical decisions made during his tenure, moments when he considered resignation, and government communication strategies during the 2023 elections. The book also documents efforts to counter misinformation on security issues, the “Change Begins With Me” national orientation campaign, and his personal reflections on the late president.

Asked if the book was meant to defend Buhari’s legacy, Mohammed responded that the truth needs no defense, noting that the administration’s achievements have already been documented through the Scorecard series and a legacy portal.
