Amaechi made his first significant public appearance on Thursday after experiencing a defeat in the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During his speech at the 2023 TheNiche Annual Lecture, themed ‘Why We Stride and Slip: Leadership, Nationalism, and the Nigerian Condition,’ held in Lagos, Amaechi criticized Usman and accused her of documenting false narratives in her book titled ‘Stepping on Toes: My Odyssey at the Nigerian Ports Authority.’
He also made fresh allegations against the former NPA boss, claiming she awarded a contract worth N2.8 billion.
In response on Saturday, Usman stated that Amaechi, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, appears to have moved past his defeat in the APC primary and is returning to public life.
Here is the full text of Usman’s response to Amaechi:
“Amaechi should mature and desist from disseminating falsehoods. Recent newspaper reports attributing false claims to the consistently petty former Minister of Transportation, His Excellency Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, about me, were not unexpected.”
