CP Igweh, who led the tactical team responsible for the operation, shared that the suspects, comprising 293 males and 14 females, were captured during the raid conducted on Sunday. The operation was carried out by personnel from the recently inaugurated “Operation Velvet,” aimed at addressing identified black spots within the territory.
The CP revealed that the arrests occurred at a notorious black spot known as “Gidan Dambe” in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis, a location where kidnappers from various regions, including Niger and Kaduna, commonly gathered for relaxation. During the operation, law enforcement seized an English Pistol with 15 rounds of live ammunition from an individual claiming to be affiliated with the Department of State Services (DSS).
Additionally, the police recovered pistols, motorcycles, various drugs, suspected to be Indian hemp, assorted handsets, and other dangerous weapons from the suspects. Notably, valuables believed to have been stolen from innocent residents were also retrieved.
CP Igweh emphasized that after the completion of screening and investigation, the apprehended individuals would face charges in court. He issued a stern warning to those involved in the illegal activities at “Gidan Dambe” in the FCT, urging them to cease harboring criminals or be prepared to face legal consequences.
