Adejobi emphasized that the emergency numbers are designated for urgent situations, such as reporting crimes or emergencies, and not for unrelated inquiries or personal matters. He highlighted instances where individuals called to discuss matters like police recruitment, family welfare, or celebrations, which is not the intended purpose of the emergency hotline.
According to Adejobi, the misuse of the emergency service by citizens can be frustrating for the officers responsible for responding to calls. He clarified the distinction between police officers at the control unit and customer care attendants, noting that the former are not there to entertain irrelevant or lengthy conversations.
“We are not customer care attendants; if you call the police control room and go off-topic, they will abort the call. They are not there to tolerate your shenanigans,” Adejobi stated. He warned that officers on duty will terminate calls that deviate from the intended use of the emergency hotline.
Adejobi also addressed the issue of individuals dropping the command’s emergency numbers with loan shark companies to obtain loans and the involvement of non-state actors in using the emergency lines, as reported in
In conclusion, the spokesperson stressed the importance of using the emergency numbers responsibly to ensure that genuine emergencies receive prompt attention, without unnecessary disruptions caused by misuse.
