“Lawan Breaks Silence: ‘I Never Ordered Any Arrest!’ – Ex-Senate President Fires Back At Critics

Senator Ahmad Lawan, who represents Yobe North Senatorial District, has strongly refuted allegations that he ordered the arrest of one of his constituents, Ishe’u Ibrahim Jadda, describing the claims as reckless and a deliberate smear campaign.

Jadda was reportedly arrested by security personnel after criticizing the Gashua water supply project, claiming it failed to provide adequate water. In a statement released on Saturday by his media aide, Ezrel Tabiowo, Lawan denied any role in the arrest or any attempt to suppress dissent.

The former Senate President emphasized that such accusations are baseless and aimed at distracting from the developmental strides in Yobe North. He reiterated his commitment to democratic values, asserting that throughout his public service career, he has never used his office to intimidate or silence critics.

According to the statement, the Gashua water project was facilitated by Senator Lawan in response to a serious public health issue and has already been commissioned and handed over to the Yobe State Government.

“This false publication is clearly intended to malign a statesman known for upholding the rule of law, democratic engagement, and freedom of expression,” the statement read.

Lawan reaffirmed his record of transparency and tolerance during his tenure, including as Senate President, where he fostered open debates and welcomed diverse opinions, even under intense public scrutiny.

He described the accusation as not only absurd but offensive to his legacy of service and commitment to good governance. Lawan added that he values constructive criticism as an essential part of improving public service.
