Lawmaker Promises Action To Revive Abandoned National Park In Taraba....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Balutu Mohammed, the lawmaker representing the Gashaka constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, has vowed to address the deteriorating conditions of Gumti National Park. In an exclusive interview with our reporter on Wednesday in Jalingo, the state capital, Balutu outlined her plans to introduce a motion urging the state government to address the neglect that has led to a significant decline in wildlife and resources within the park.

She highlighted pressing issues faced by the communities surrounding the park, including poor infrastructure, lack of electricity, and insufficient water supply. Additionally, Balutu mentioned ongoing efforts to establish a collaboration between the state government and Africa Nature Investors (ANI), a non-governmental organization dedicated to conservation.

“When I took office, I reached out to ANI to request a visit, aiming to understand their programs and explore how I can contribute as a member of the community. I plan to tour their projects to assess their work and subsequently move a motion in the House for state intervention to benefit our community,” she explained.

Balutu emphasized the urgent need for improvements in basic amenities for the communities surrounding the park, particularly in areas such as roads, electricity, and water supply. “We require better roads, electricity, water, and job opportunities. The current state of the roads is unacceptable, and our community deserves better,” she stated.

The lawmaker also pointed out that the park has the potential to reduce unemployment in the state and urged ANI to prioritize local employment opportunities.
