In a statement released by the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, the lawmakers warned against the potential repercussions of such actions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public trust in the legislature.

While acknowledging the recent industrial action by the NLC and TUC over negotiations for a new national minimum wage, the House reaffirmed its commitment to engaging all stakeholders to address key national priorities, including economic stability and security.

House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen reiterated the need for a living wage and improved working conditions for workers but urged caution to avoid adverse economic consequences such as inflation and layoffs.

The House condemned the shutdown of critical infrastructure during the strike, labeling it as economic sabotage and calling for accountability from those responsible.

Furthermore, the House expressed concern over the conduct of organized labor during the strike, questioning whether their actions aimed to achieve a living wage or inflict pain on Nigerians.

Addressing persistent misinformation spread by labor leaders regarding lawmakers’ salaries, the House emphasized the importance of honest dialogue and transparency to resolve issues effectively.

Contrary to assertions made by labor leadership, the House asserted its commitment to serving the interests of Nigerians and called for a return to negotiations in good faith to achieve a balanced outcome.

The strike, initially called for a new minimum wage above N60,000, was suspended for one week following agreements between union leaders and the Federal Government.
