A 22-year-old man, Nura Sabiu, has been handed a life sentence by a High Court in Kano State for fatally stabbing an 18-year-old individual. Justice Usman Na’abba, presiding over the case, asserted that the Prosecution successfully established its case beyond reasonable doubt. He declared, “I hereby sentence Sabiu to life imprisonment and Ubale to five years imprisonment.”

The incident occurred on April 17, 2017, at Jalabi Village in Bunkure Local Government, Kano. The defendants, Sabiu and Ubale, conspired to attack and fatally stab 18-year-old Abba Isma’il. The motive behind the attack was reportedly linked to Isma’il’s relationship with Sabiu’s girlfriend, Zahra’u.

The police revealed that the assailants used a knife to stab Isma’il in the back, resulting in severe injuries. Isma’il was rushed to Rano Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.

Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Lamido Sorondinki, presented three witnesses to support the case. Despite the defendants pleading not guilty, the court found them guilty under the provisions of sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code.

Defense counsel, Mr. Umar Danbaito, presented three witnesses, including the defendants, during the proceedings.
