The incident, which occurred on Thursday, left 31 others injured.
FRSC Sector Commander Samson Kaura disclosed that the crash, involving a trailer transporting soft drinks, happened around 7:30 a.m. He attributed the accident to brake failure. The trailer carried 38 occupants, including 34 males, two females, and two children.
Among the deceased were five males, one female, and one child. The injured are receiving treatment at the General Hospital Kaltungo, while the deceased have been moved to the hospital morgue.
Kaura urged the public to avoid hitching rides on trailers to save transportation costs, stressing the dangers associated with such practices.
“This single crash resulted in numerous casualties, and we spent the entire day managing the situation,” he said.
He added, “Trailers are not designed to carry humans but goods. We strongly advise against boarding heavy-duty vehicles to avoid transport fares. The risks are simply too high.”
