In a statement issued on Monday, the Church cautioned Nigerians to be wary of internet content, advising against taking everything seen online at face value. The Church specifically condemned certain bloggers, whom they labeled as “devilish,” accusing them of manipulating and distorting statements for sensationalism.

The controversy erupted following viral videos featuring testimonies from Church members, including a particularly contentious claim that a member had ridden on a lion. The Church stressed that such testimonies are genuine expressions of faith and not fabricated tales. They urged the public to disregard the disparaging comments and approach such matters with discernment.

One testimony featured a member who claimed, “Something entered my back, lifted me up, and carried me like an airplane. When it dropped me, I turned to look and saw it was a lion. The lion then directed me and said goodbye.”

Another viral video showed a woman who claimed to have fought off robbers and taken their AK-47 rifles, while a man asserted he survived a kidnapping, machete attacks, and gunshot wounds without injury.

In response, the Lord’s Chosen Church stated that the videos were doctored. Pastor Chidi Louis, Head of Public Relations and Media, described the videos as an attempt to discredit the Church’s work. He advised Nigerians to visit the Church’s official platform for the complete testimonies, clarifying that the lady’s story about fighting robbers occurred in a dream. The Church’s media department also labeled the viral footage as fake and urged the public to disregard it. Additionally, the Church’s TikTok handle has released the full version of the lady’s testimony, clarifying that it took place in her dream.
