LP Legal Adviser: NLC Collaborating With Politicians To Sabotage Our Party’s Integrity

In a statement released on Wednesday, Edum emphasized that the Labour Party is independent of the NLC and asserted that the political structures of the NLC have no legitimate ties to the Labour Party. He alleged that the NLC, acting as hired agents, is orchestrating a campaign to sow division and create turmoil within the party. Despite these efforts, Edum affirmed the party’s resilience and stability.

According to Edum, the NLC leadership and its associated committees are not members of the Labour Party and are being used by rival political entities to propagate misinformation and attack the party’s leadership. He criticized their claims of having any legitimate stake in the party as baseless and deceptive.

Edum also addressed a recent request made to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Steve Adani, purportedly on behalf of the NLC, seeking a certified true copy of the Nnewi convention. He argued that the NLC’s involvement in such matters is unwarranted and illegitimate, especially since INEC did not monitor the convention in question.

Furthermore, Edum pointed out that under Nigerian law, the NLC is prohibited from utilizing its funds for political purposes, raising questions about the source of funding for their activities against the Labour Party.

In conclusion, Edum stressed that the Labour Party operates within the framework of Nigerian constitutional provisions governing political parties, dismissing the NLC’s attempts to assert control over the party as unlawful and unconstitutional. He reaffirmed that the Labour Party belongs to all Nigerians and denounced any efforts to hijack its governance or operations.
