LP’s Survival Linked To Nenadi’s Recent Emergence, According To Group
On Sunday, the Labour Party candidates from Kaduna State rallied in support of Sen. Nenadi Usman, the acting National Chairperson of the Labour Party. They called on stakeholders to unite behind her efforts to strengthen the party as a formidable opposition force…….CONTINUE READING
Dr. Yusuf Abdullahi, the group’s spokesperson, made this appeal on Thursday in a press statement issued to journalists in Kaduna. He emphasized that Nenadi’s ascension to the role of National Caretaker Committee Chairperson had been crucial in saving the party from near collapse, arguing that she deserves ongoing support to lead and promote unity within the party.
“Had it not been for her emergence, Nigeria’s electoral bodies would have moved to deregister the Labour Party, preventing it from participating in any elections,” Abdullahi stated.
He dismissed media reports from a splinter group advocating for Nenadi’s removal, describing them as renegades disconnected from reality. Abdullahi highlighted Nenadi’s accomplishments, referencing the Labour Party’s victories in various regions, particularly in Kaduna State, during the 2023 general elections. He also acknowledged the party’s historic achievements.
He further underscored Nenadi’s commitment to resolving internal conflicts and noted that despite attempts by some dissidents to destabilize the party, it has continued to thrive and maintain its relevance.
“Her journey as a grassroots politician—starting as a Commissioner, serving as an elected Senator for the Kaduna-South Senatorial district, and holding the position of a Federal Minister—gives us confidence that better days lie ahead for the Labour Party under her leadership,” Abdullahi asserted.
He expressed gratitude to the 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi; the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti; and all serving Senators and House of Representatives members for their roles in facilitating Sen. Nenadi’s emergence. Abdullahi believes her past socio-political engagements will positively influence her leadership of the party.
“We cannot achieve meaningful democratic outcomes without sound and transparent internal party administration. We are confident that her extensive political experience will lead to robust engagements within the party,” he said.
He also commended the 2023 gubernatorial candidate for Kaduna State, Hon. Jonathan Asake, for his significant contributions to unifying the Labour Party. Abdullahi expressed hope in continuing to benefit from Asake’s experience and advice as the party prepares for upcoming Local Government elections.
Finally, he urged all Labour Party members to distance themselves from the faction led by Tafoki Lawal, affirming that both INEC and SIECOM recognize Hon. Yusuf Danbaki as the legitimate caretaker committee chairman. Abdullahi concluded by reiterating their unwavering support for Sen. Nenadi Usman as the national leader of the party and Hon. Yusuf Danbaki as the State Party Chairman.
