Major Shake-Up: IPOB Suspends Nnamdi Kanu, Names New Direction

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reportedly announced the suspension of the Office of its Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as well as the position of Director of Radio Biafra.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision was said to have been reached during a full-house meeting of the group’s Directorate held on Wednesday.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Head of the Directorate of State, Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem.

According to the statement, the Directorate of State will now take charge of administering the affairs of the organisation and overseeing its activities.

IPOB stated that the movement was founded and developed by a collective of Biafrans in the diaspora, rather than by any single individual.

It further maintained that no individual has the authority to dissolve the Directorate of State, which it described as the highest decision-making body of the group.

The organisation said its decision followed a review of intelligence reports linked to communications allegedly made by Kanu from Sokoto prison.

It expressed concern that certain “unguarded communications” had allegedly contributed to arrests and deaths of IPOB members in the region.

The group also alleged that Kanu’s visitors and activities were under surveillance by the Department of State Services (DSS).

IPOB Warns Against Violence

IPOB warned against attempts by any individuals to form new armed groups, saying such actions could escalate violence in the region.

It explained that the suspension was aimed at preventing “reckless actions, unchecked authority, and unguarded statements” that could lead to further arrests, torture, or deaths of youths.

The group added that it would no longer take responsibility for any actions carried out in the name of suspended offices or individuals.

It stated: “IPOB shall henceforth not be held accountable for actions of individuals or groups not holding any active position within IPOB.”

Reported Leadership Changes

The development reportedly followed claims that Kanu had dissolved the third administration of the Directorate of State and inaugurated a fourth leadership structure.

He was also said to have appointed a United States-based member, Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, as the new Head of the Directorate of State.

According to a statement attributed to IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, Nwaọgụ was directed to oversee the administration, coordination, and daily operations of the organisation under Kanu’s authority.

The Directorate of State, established in 2012, serves as IPOB’s administrative arm and has previously been led by several officials in different countries, including the United States, Spain, and Switzerland.
