A 52-year-old individual, identified as Hamisu Mamuda, has been apprehended for allegedly trying to smuggle 12 parcels of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, into the Kurmawa Correctional Centre situated in Kano State.

Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the state police, revealed this development in a statement issued on Monday, April 29. Kiyawa stated that Mamuda was intercepted in the act of attempting to introduce the narcotics into the facility, purportedly with the intention to distribute them among the inmates.

In the statement released, it was detailed that on the 27th of April 2024, personnel from the Nigeria Correctional Service stationed at Kurmawa Correctional Centre detained Hamisu Mamuda, a resident of Samegu Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State. Mamuda was found in possession of twelve nylon bags containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed within his jacket as he sought to smuggle them into the correctional facility with the alleged aim of selling them to the inmates.

The suspect has reportedly admitted to the offense and is presently undergoing investigation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
