A 21-year-old, Adejimi Adepoju, appeared in front of a Magistrate’s court in Ile-Ife, Osun State, facing allegations of obtaining a mobile phone through deceitful means involving a counterfeit money transfer. According to Naija News, the incident took place on April 3 at the New Market within the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where Adepoju purportedly tricked a phone vendor into surrendering a mobile device valued at N180,000.
The prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, informed the court that the defendant engaged in the deceptive transaction by initiating a fake transfer for the specified amount, contravening Section 157 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002. Upon hearing the charge, Adepoju pleaded not guilty.
In his defense, Samuel Obi, representing the accused, sought bail for Adepoju on lenient terms, ensuring that he could provide credible sureties to vouch for him.
Magistrate Taofeek Badmus, overseeing the proceedings, granted the bail application, setting it at N500,000 with two sureties who must match the bail amount. The conditions imposed on the sureties included presenting an affidavit of means, residing within the jurisdiction of the court, and one of them must be a blood relative of the defendant.
