A lawmaker representing the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency and serving as the deputy spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Chief Philip Agbese, reportedly faced an attack by hoodlums. According to reports, Agbese was engaging with constituents in Igumale, the headquarters of Ado Local Government area in Benue State, during an Easter event when the incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses recounted that a group of youths armed with weapons such as clubs and knives disrupted the gathering, putting Agbese and others present at risk. Fortunately, Agbese managed to escape unharmed as security personnel swiftly intervened to ensure his safety.

Security forces acted promptly upon receiving information about the attack and succeeded in apprehending some of the perpetrators. Agbese, however, was unavailable for comment at the time of the report, although several prominent figures from Ado Local Government expressed condemnation for the hoodlums’ actions.

An investigation is underway to ascertain the motives behind the attack and identify those responsible.

In a separate incident, a recent outbreak of communal violence in North Bank, a suburb of the Makurdi metropolis in Benue State, has led to the loss of lives and destruction of property. The conflict, primarily between the Tiv and Jukun communities, began on Sunday and intensified into Monday.

According to Nura Umar, the Commander of a local vigilante group, individuals engaged in menial labor were among the casualties, caught in the crossfire of the conflict. The clashes resulted in widespread destruction and heightened tensions in the area.

The situation remains tense, with the state police command yet to release an official statement regarding the crisis.
