This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Deputy Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar, in a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja.

According to Umar, the ₦5 million bounty aims to encourage public cooperation in locating the fleeing inmates. He urged members of the public to report any relevant information to the nearest security agency, assuring that all tips would be handled with strict confidentiality.

He stated, “To promote public participation, the Nigerian Correctional Service is offering a ₦5 million reward to anyone who provides useful information that results in the recapture of the inmates who escaped from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesha, Osun State.

“We encourage the public to report any leads about the fugitives to the closest security agencies. All information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and anonymity.”

The Nigerian Correctional Service has launched a comprehensive manhunt following the incident, which occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The breach, caused by heavy rainfall, led to the escape of seven inmates from the facility.
