Monalisa passed away on May 13, 2025, in Lagos State due to complications from low blood sugar and internal bleeding.

In a statement released on her official Instagram page on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the family confirmed that the burial will be a private ceremony. They also requested ongoing prayers and respect for her memory during this difficult period.

The statement read, “We will lay our beloved Monalisa Ayobami Stephen to rest this Thursday, May 22nd, 2025. In accordance with her wishes and those of the family, the ceremony will be private. We ask for continued prayers and respect for her memory at this time. She will forever remain in our hearts.”

Monalisa, aged 34, was celebrated for her roles in films like Breaded Life (2021) and Mami Wata (2023), as well as for her advocacy on behalf of plus-size women, mental health awareness, and self-love.
