Marriage Dispute Turns Serious As Nigerian Woman Threatens Husband’s UK Dependent Status

A Nigerian man based in Scotland has appealed for advice online after his wife allegedly threatened to withdraw his sponsorship as a dependent following a disagreement over a family WhatsApp group.

In a video circulating on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the man explained that his wife, who is the principal applicant under their sponsorship arrangement, threatened to remove him from her application because he refused to leave a WhatsApp group created for his mother and siblings.

According to the man, the group was established to enable members of his immediate family to discuss personal and family-related matters. However, his wife reportedly insisted that she should be included, arguing that marriage meant they were one family and should not keep such boundaries between themselves.

He said he agreed that they were united as a couple but maintained that the particular WhatsApp group was intended exclusively for his mother and siblings. His wife allegedly gave him an ultimatum, demanding that he either add her to the group or leave it.

Recounting the disagreement, the man said his wife questioned whether they were not one as a married couple. He explained that although he acknowledged their unity, he believed the group was specifically meant for his family members.

The man described their marriage as generally peaceful and insisted that he had not engaged in any wrongdoing apart from choosing to remain in the family group without adding his wife.

However, he expressed concern about the possible consequences of his wife’s threat, particularly the prospect of losing his dependent status. He admitted that he was uncertain about how he would rebuild his life if she proceeded with the decision.

Appealing to social media users for guidance, he wondered whether he should leave the WhatsApp group or agree to include his wife to prevent the situation from escalating.

The incident has sparked discussions about privacy, family boundaries and the challenges that can arise when immigration or sponsorship arrangements become entangled in marital disagreements.
