In response, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi released a statement on Thursday, confirming that the agency had removed the controversial requirement. He explained that the decision was part of a larger overhaul of the agency’s visa clearance procedures.
“The entire visa clearance process required by some countries is currently being reviewed, and the rule requiring married women to provide a letter of approval from their husbands to travel has been discarded as a non-mandatory requirement,” the statement said. “This provision was originally introduced due to certain unfavorable incidents in some source countries.”
Babafemi assured the public that the updated visa clearance guidelines will be released soon, ensuring the policy aligns with modern standards.
