The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an emergency meeting with the political aides of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following a significant wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Over 5,000 members of the PDP, including key figures such as Senator Ned Nwoko, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, former House of Representatives member Nicholas Ossai, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, former Commissioner Chika Ossai, and Dr. Chris Okobah, have recently left the party. Their departure is attributed to internal conflicts, with accusations of authoritarianism against Governor Oborevwori.
Sources reveal that several of the governor’s close allies—those who played crucial roles in his 2023 election campaign—are also considering a shift to the APC.
In response to the growing defections, PDP leadership has moved swiftly to address the situation, calling for a crucial meeting.
On Wednesday, Delta State PDP Chairman Solomon Areyinka issued a statement inviting all political aides to Governor Oborevwori to attend the meeting, scheduled for Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Asaba.
The statement emphasized that the meeting was mandatory for Senior Political Adviser Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo and other key aides. The session will also include the State Party Chairman and members of the State Working Committee.
The meeting is set to begin at noon on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the PDP State Secretariat in Asaba.
