Matawalle Blasts Anti-Tinubu Campaigns, Sends Strong Message To Opposition Ahead Of 2027

In a statement issued on Friday in Kaduna by his Personal Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Matawalle said disagreements among political actors should be pursued within democratic boundaries and not in ways that damage the country’s institutions or international reputation.

The minister criticised reports alleging that a Nigerian politician hired a foreign lobbying firm to circulate decades-old documents relating to President Tinubu in the United States, describing the development as regrettable.

According to him, such moves do not strengthen democracy or contribute to resolving Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.

Matawalle urged opposition leaders to channel their energy towards supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to improve security, foster national unity and enhance the welfare of citizens, rather than seeking to undermine the Presidency.

He emphasised that the Presidency remains a national institution and a symbol of Nigeria’s sovereignty that deserves respect irrespective of political differences.

“No foreign government or lobbying firm can determine Nigeria’s democratic choices or overturn the mandate freely given by Nigerians,” he stated.

The minister maintained that political competition should never compromise Nigeria’s image, unity or national interest.

He also referenced recent remarks by United States President Donald Trump, who, according to Matawalle, commended President Tinubu’s leadership and acknowledged Nigeria’s progress in strengthening security cooperation and combating terrorism.

Matawalle said the recognition reflects growing international confidence in Nigeria and should inspire citizens to promote unity instead of projecting divisive narratives abroad.

He argued that campaigns driven by propaganda and hatred would neither derail the Tinubu administration nor diminish its achievements, but would instead damage the credibility of those promoting them.

The minister insisted that misinformation and political propaganda would not weaken the government, stressing that Nigerians freely elected Tinubu to lead the country.

He called on opposition figures to embrace constructive politics by presenting practical alternatives while supporting efforts to address insecurity, strengthen peaceful coexistence and accelerate national development.

Matawalle further urged political stakeholders to avoid actions capable of overheating the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that all actors have a shared responsibility to protect Nigeria’s unity, stability and global reputation.
