The President made the call on Thursday while speaking at the maiden State House Press Corps Presidential Dinner held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tinubu cautioned journalists against allowing their platforms to become channels for amplifying the activities or messages of criminal groups, stressing that such reporting could undermine national security at a time when the country is confronting serious security challenges.

According to him, the government is making progress in combating insecurity by neutralising criminal elements and rescuing kidnapped victims, and the media should support those efforts through responsible journalism.

“The media must resist the temptation of becoming megaphones for terrorists and kidnappers,” Tinubu said.

“We must not undermine our country with irresponsible reporting. If we do, we will have no safe space left, especially at a time when our nation is tackling security threats, neutralising thousands of criminal elements, and rescuing hostages.

“The media should not become an amplifier for those who wish to harm us.

“The government must act, the media must watch; the government must explain, and the media must question.”

Akpabio Hails Tinubu’s Performance

Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described President Tinubu as a “miracle worker,” praising his administration’s record on infrastructure development.

Akpabio said no previous Nigerian president had commissioned as many projects within three years in office as Tinubu.

He made the remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of the Old Keffi Road from Kado Fish Market to Dei-Dei, an event held as part of activities marking the President’s third anniversary in office.

Representing President Tinubu at the event, Akpabio said:

“I’m here to represent the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the performing President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu. I have not seen any president in Nigeria who, on his first, second or third anniversary in office, has commissioned the number of projects that this president has commissioned across the country.”
