Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that the ruling serves as a morale boost for the military, energizing their mission to dismantle the group and its armed faction, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The Court of Appeal in Abuja recently affirmed the 2018 Federal High Court decision, which banned IPOB and designated it as a terrorist organization.
In delivering the judgment, a three-member appellate court panel unanimously agreed that the federal government acted lawfully in proscribing the group, citing its activities as a national security threat. Justice Hamma Barka, who led the judgment, dismissed IPOB’s appeal, ruling that all their claims were without merit.
Speaking with Daily Trust, Buba emphasized that the military now has renewed determination to eradicate both IPOB and the ESN, calling the ruling a significant development. “The ruling is indeed a welcomed development that motivates our troops to speed up efforts in dismantling and destroying the IPOB terror group and their ESN allies,” he said.
