They also seized a locally-made Rocket Propelled Launcher (known as Ogbunigwe) and materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), among other items.
According to a statement from Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, this successful operation took place during clearance operations conducted by troops along Ihioma-Ihittenansa in Orsu local government area and Okigwe-Umulolo in Okigwe local government area of Imo State.
These operations aimed to identify and dismantle potential hideouts of the fleeing IPOB/ESN militants who have been involved in violence, extortion, and intimidation of innocent South-Eastern citizens under the pretext of their agitation.
During the simultaneous clearance operations at Umulolo, one of the military vehicles was hit by an IED, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The troops also engaged with the fleeing militants, who retreated into nearby forests with gunshot wounds due to the superior firepower of the military.
As a result of these operations, two suspects were apprehended, and the military recovered two locally made firearms, ammunition, one PKT machine gun barrel, one significant locally-made Rocket Propelled Launcher (Ogbunigwe), and materials used in the production of IEDs.
