The illegal camp was equipped with makeshift houses, 15 boilers, nine storage tanks, newly acquired pipes, and other costly facilities valued at millions of naira. General Officer Commanding, Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, along with division officers, led the troops deep into the creeks using speedboats to assess the camp.

Discovering that approximately five million liters of crude oil had already been pilfered for refining in the camp, the troops intervened to halt the illicit activity. Maj. Gen. Abdusalam expressed dismay at the situation, emphasizing the division’s unwavering commitment to eradicating all illegal refineries and connections within its area of responsibility.

Describing the findings as disheartening, he compared it to a previous raid in Odagwa, Etche Local Government, where about three million liters of crude oil were seized. He expressed surprise at the scale of the latest illegal activities uncovered.

The General Officer Commanding asserted that the division, undeterred by the magnitude of the discovery, would persist in its efforts to combat illegal activities in the region. Despite the operators fleeing the area, the division is actively pursuing leads to apprehend those responsible for the economic sabotage.

Maj. Gen. Abdusalam highlighted the complexity of the illegal operation, pointing out the need for significant financial investment, expertise, and meticulous planning to set up such facilities. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the focus remains on tracking down the masterminds behind the illicit activities. The division vowed to continue its mission to dismantle illegal refineries and connections, ensuring the economic and environmental integrity of the region.
