In recent operations, troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully thwarted a kidnap attempt on passengers traveling aboard three commercial buses in Kogi State, while also eliminating two insurgents in Zamfara State. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, made this disclosure in a statement released on Friday.

According to the statement, vigilant troops intervened swiftly to prevent the abduction of passengers along the Akpata-Obajana Road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State. They rescued the passengers and engaged the criminals in a pursuit, effectively averting the situation. Several injured passengers received immediate evacuation to a medical facility for treatment.

Additionally, in a separate operation conducted as part of counterinsurgency efforts in the North West, troops raided a kidnappers’ hideout in Zamfara State. During the operation, the troops encountered insurgents and engaged them in a gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of two insurgents.

The raid led to the recovery of weapons including a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated firearm, live cartridges, a locally made pistol, a handset, and a tying chain used to restrain kidnapped victims. Furthermore, the troops dismantled the insurgents’ camp, significantly disrupting their activities.

This successful military intervention follows a recent operation in which soldiers attached to the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army neutralized two terrorists and seized weapons in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
