Major-General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the division, disclosed this accomplishment during a sideline announcement at the 2023 West African Social Activities celebration for the army in Port Harcourt on Monday.
In the course of the special military exercise conducted in the four states, the division also apprehended 1,112 individuals suspected of engaging in oil theft. Maj.-Gen. Abdussalam highlighted the positive outcomes of the scheduled exercises, notably the field training exercise named “Exercise Still Waters 3,” which significantly curtailed criminal activities in the division’s area of responsibility.
Over the exercise’s duration, the division achieved notable milestones, including 1,112 arrests, the destruction of 233 illegal refineries, and the confiscation of 1,111,900 million liters of unlawfully refined petroleum products. The troops additionally impounded 72 trucks and various vehicles, recovering more than 356 arms and ammunitions during the operation.
Maj.-Gen. Abdussalam expressed the commitment of the army to build upon these achievements in 2023, aligning with the Federal Government’s objective to reach its crude oil production target in 2024. He emphasized the necessity for troops to maintain dedication, focus, and commitment to fulfill their collective responsibilities.
The GOC stressed the imperative of zero tolerance for oil theft and activities jeopardizing peace in the Niger Delta and the entire nation. He pledged the army’s relentless pursuit of criminals attacking them, ensuring they face severe consequences for their actions.
Maj.-Gen. Abdussalam assured that the division would employ all necessary measures to facilitate an increase in crude oil output in 2024, reinforcing the commitment to defend democratic values and maintain stability across the region.
