In a widely disseminated communication endorsed by Eze Joshua Akomas of Osah, Eze Abel Iheanyichukwu (Ochima 1) of Ohabiri Umuchime na Amanso autonomous community, and Eze Chiabuotu Emelike of Eziama na Mgbaja autonomous community, the traditional leaders, along with other community figures, urged both locals and visitors to maintain peaceful conduct while enjoying the Ekpe festival.

The leaders emphasized that their territories have been characterized by peace, and they implored everyone to uphold this tranquility. The joint statement explicitly stated:

“We wish to state categorically that the practice of cultism, as well as the sale of prohibited substances such as Indian Hemp and Mkpurumiri, will not be tolerated. Moreover, the possession of machetes, guns, and bottled drinks is strictly prohibited, with violators facing consequences, including a fine of fifty thousand naira.”

Numerous monarchs across various autonomous communities in Abia have been adopting preemptive measures to ensure crime-free environments, particularly during festive seasons. It is noteworthy that Governor Alex Otti, in his New Year broadcast, reiterated a stern warning to traditional rulers and community leaders, cautioning them against permitting their domains to be havens for criminal activities. He emphasized that any leader found harboring criminals would face severe consequences.
