Speaking during a recent Okpepke race engagement, Minister Momoh noted that sports goes beyond recreation and entertainment, describing it as a strategic avenue for driving political and economic development. According to him, a well-developed sports sector can create employment opportunities, attract investments, boost tourism, and promote peaceful coexistence among diverse groups within the country.

The Minister emphasized that governments at all levels should prioritize investments in sports infrastructure, talent development, and grassroots sporting activities to harness the immense potential embedded in the sector. He added that many developed nations have successfully leveraged sports as a vehicle for economic prosperity and social advancement.

Momoh further stated that sports serves as a platform for engaging young people positively, helping to reduce social vices while nurturing discipline, teamwork, leadership, and patriotism. He urged stakeholders, including private sector investors, sports administrators, and community leaders, to collaborate in advancing the growth of sports across the country.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to initiatives that promote youth development and national cohesion through sports, expressing confidence that sustained investment in the sector would contribute significantly to Nigeria’s overall development and global competitiveness.
