Minister Announces Review Of Intellectual Property Laws To Foster InnovationOn Monday, the Federal Government announced its review of the country’s Intellectual Property Policy to empower creators, protect cultural heritage, and promote innovation. Intellectual property (IP) encompasses intangible creations of the human intellect, including various forms such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. Musawa highlighted that President Bola Tinubu is focused on attracting investments, emphasizing the need for a robust IP policy.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to fostering an environment that encourages investment and partnerships in Nigeria. We aim to create a framework that facilitates ease of doing business, serves the public interest, and attracts investment in the cultural and creative sectors,” Musawa stated.

She added, “Protecting intellectual property is vital for empowering our creators, preserving our cultural heritage, and driving innovation across all sectors.”

Doris Uzoka-Anite also underscored the importance of an Intellectual Property Policy, stating, “Such a policy is essential for Nigeria’s economic growth and development. Intellectual property statutes provide clarity on ownership rights for original inventions and innovations, as well as the financial implications related to the commercialization of technology.
