During the inauguration, Governor Aliyu emphasized that the initiative is designed to benefit all residents of Sokoto, regardless of their political or ethnic backgrounds. He noted that his government has implemented multiple palliative measures to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal and the global economic downturn.
“We have all witnessed significant economic challenges both nationally and internationally since the current political administration began. These changes have affected global financial stability,” Aliyu remarked. He pointed out that federal reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and increased electricity tariffs, have contributed to economic hardships for the people.
The governor highlighted ongoing efforts by both federal and state governments to provide relief to citizens. He stated, “In response to the unique challenges faced in our state, we have extended various forms of assistance and subsidized mass transit to ease transportation difficulties.”
Aliyu further explained, “Through this new approach, the state government is committed to ensuring that essential commodities are available at a 55% discount, enabling families to access necessary goods for their well-being.” He assured residents that the initiative would reach all 244 wards in Sokoto, emphasizing inclusivity regardless of social or political differences.
The governor urged affluent individuals and corporate bodies to support the initiative by providing additional food items and essentials to assist the less privileged in their communities.
Chiso Dattijo, the chairman of the newly formed committee, praised the governor’s initiative as timely and expressed the committee’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities effectively.
