In a statement released by an official from the ministry’s Press and Public Relations unit, Tine-Lulun, the minister urged stakeholders to demonstrate commitment in utilizing the sector to contribute to Nigeria’s prosperity and overall development.

He stated, “Building a thriving Nigerian minerals and metals industry is not just an economic imperative; it is a national imperative, job-creating, empowering communities, and laying the groundwork for a self-reliant, diversified economy.”

The minister viewed the conference as a platform for stakeholders to establish strategic partnerships and devise a roadmap for advancing economic transformation through the nation’s minerals and metals sector.

Despite acknowledging challenges faced by the sector, including aging infrastructure and an uncertain global market, Maigari saw these obstacles as opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and thinking beyond conventional approaches.

Addressing a diverse audience comprising miners, manufacturers, investors, policymakers, researchers, citizens, and businessmen, the minister called for a national mission to revitalize the steel industry. He urged participants to move beyond sharing ideas and commit to concrete actions and measurable outcomes.

Maigari also encouraged stakeholders in the mining industry to prioritize partnerships with local communities for mutual benefits, emphasizing that the sector’s success is intertwined with the well-being of host communities.

The three-day conference, themed ‘Mineral and Metal Sector, a Panacea for Economic Growth and Diversity,’ commenced on January 15. Discussions during the event covered topics such as policy reforms, investment opportunities, community engagement, environmental sustainability, and fostering innovation in the sector.
