Sharia Court Reverses Decision, Orders Rearrest Of Controversial Imam, Dusten Tanshi

The presiding judge, Malam Hussaini A. Turaki, rejected the defense counsel’s suggestion to consider the Court of Appeal’s order in Jos. Abdul’aziz faces charges of alleged incitement of public disturbance of peace and blasphemy based on a petition filed with the police.

The accusations stem from the Imam’s purported blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) and some notable Dariqa clerics during one of his Ramadan Tafsir sessions.

Despite earlier bail, the presiding judge, after considering arguments from both sides, insisted that the accused person must appear in court, emphasizing the criminal nature of the case.

The plaintiff’s counsel, UB Umar, stated that numerous attempts to summon the defendant, including public announcements and substitute service, were unsuccessful in securing his appearance.

On the defense side, Ahmad M Umar urged the court to respect the Court of Appeal’s previous order, highlighting errors in the revocation of bail.

As a result, the court adjourned the case until January 24, 2024, for the continuation of the hearing, with a mandate for the accused person to be present in court. Simultaneously, an arrest warrant was issued in response to his non-compliance with previous summonses.
