The committee’s chairman, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, issued the summons during an oversight inspection of several ongoing projects in the state. Dangiwa, along with representatives from four contractors involved, has been directed to appear before the committee on Thursday.

In a statement released on Sunday, Abiante expressed strong dissatisfaction with the substandard work on the Umu Etuk-Spencer Esin slum upgrade road network in Oron, which was handled by contractors working for the ministry. He also criticized the slow progress of the 250 housing units in Uyo, being managed by three separate contractors.

Despite the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development providing 30 percent of the funding for each of the projects, Abiante revealed that the contractors have completed less than 6 percent of the work so far.

“The contractor responsible for the Oron road project has squandered allocated funds on inferior materials,” Abiante stated. “The road, which was newly constructed in July, is already in a deplorable state, despite the project being intended to alleviate the hardships of local residents. This situation is deeply troubling.”

Abiante further accused the contractors — Springwell Intercontinental Resources, Tunsoye Trust Global Link, and Hyosungs Nigeria Limited — of undermining the efforts of the government’s renewed housing initiative. He specifically called out the contractors involved in the 250 housing units in Uruan, Uyo, and the Oron road project, alleging that their actions could sabotage the administration’s housing goals.

As a result, Abiante has instructed the committee’s clerk to officially invite Minister Dangiwa and the four contractors to appear before the committee on Thursday without fail.
