Joe Waksi, a journalist with Atar Communication, the parent company of Liberty TV/Radio, was reportedly found dead on Wednesday, June 19, in Abuja, five days after being declared missing.
Waksi, an On-Air Personality (OAP) for the media company, had left the office around 9 pm on Friday and was expected to return by 2 pm the following day.
Balarabe Muhammad, the Group General Manager of Atar Communication, confirmed to Daily Trust that Waksi’s body was discovered near the Panteka area by the Mpape division police and was taken to the Kubwa General Hospital morgue.
Waksi had been stabbed in the neck, and his phone was missing. It is suspected he was attacked by phone snatchers. Notably, two months prior, he survived a similar attack where he was stabbed below the abdomen but recovered after treatment. He was on a break until Monday due to internal scheduling but was expected to work the next afternoon; however, he never returned.
Known as Joel among his colleagues, Waksi was described as hardworking and highly creative.
