She stated, “I was actually unaware of my child (Mohbad) passing away. His father did not inform me. I stayed in his house for 10 days before his death. When I heard about his demise, I rushed back there. I was the one who informed his father and siblings about the news and brought them together.”
“I requested their father to meet me along with all the children, despite our past disagreements. Despite not having the strength to argue with him, I found solace in my children and brought them together. Unfortunately, their father separated us.”
“I believe my son was still alive when he was buried. I advised against his burial, but my advice was disregarded. If they had postponed his burial, I believe he would have survived. Joseph is my main concern. I suspect he buried my son prematurely,” she added.
However, Aloba cited Yoruba tradition as the reason for the hasty burial, explaining that it is customary not to delay the burial of a deceased person when both parents are alive.
He mentioned that if Mohbad had passed away at an older age, they might have considered storing his remains in a morgue for a later burial.
Furthermore, Mohbad’s father stated that the property where Mohbad was laid to rest belonged to his son and had been gifted to him to construct a chapel. He affirmed that the decision for a swift burial aligned with Yoruba customs.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 in Lagos State.
