In a statement, Prof Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary-General of the NSCIA, encouraged the Muslim Ummah to seek out the crescent of Ramadan 1445 on the specified date, corresponding to the 29th Sha’aban 1445 AH. The announcement further called upon adept Muslim believers capable of sighting the crescent to inform members of the National Moon Sighting Committee.

Under the leadership of President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the NSCIA expressed congratulations to the entire Muslim Ummah on the forthcoming 1445 AH Ramadan fast. The statement conveyed prayers for Allah to preserve the lives of all Muslims, enabling them to partake in Ibadah (worship) and fully receive its blessings.

The President-General, in alignment with the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), urged the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to search for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024, corresponding to the 29th Sha’aban 1445 AH. If the crescent is sighted by Muslims known for their impeccable character on the designated evening, His Eminence will declare Monday, March 11, 2024, as the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH. In the event that the crescent is not sighted, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, automatically becomes the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH.

The statement additionally called on affluent Muslims to assist the less fortunate through charitable deeds and cautioned merchants against hoarding food or inflating prices during the fasting period. It specifically warned traders against stockpiling food or engaging in price manipulation during the fasting time.
