This was disclosed by the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, in a statement released on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

According to the statement, the operation was launched following an intelligence report received on August 31, 2024. The report indicated that Mustapha Abdullahi and his group were spotted near Sabon Gida Forest, along Sabon Birni Road in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The group was believed to be planning to kidnap, harm, or kill innocent civilians.

In response, a team of Special Forces from the NAF’s 413 Force Protection Group was dispatched to the area to locate and neutralize the threat. Upon making contact with the terrorists, who were traveling on motorcycles, the group opened fire on the NAF forces. However, the troops responded with superior firepower, resulting in the elimination of all six terrorists.

Items recovered from the scene included five locally-made rifles, sub-machine guns, and live ammunition. Additionally, various charms, lighters, SIM cards, and phone cases were also seized.

The statement emphasized that efforts by NAF troops to eradicate criminal activities in Igabi, Birnin Gwari, and surrounding areas are ongoing. The troops involved in the operation have been commended and encouraged to continue their efforts to protect lives and property.
