NAFDAC has taken action against 50 outlets in Kaduna State for selling cooking oil in unsanitary conditions. The move comes as part of a sensitization workshop aimed at educating dealers on Registration Procedures and Food Management. According to a statement released by the agency, the sealing of these outlets is intended to prevent potential health risks associated with contaminated edible oil.
Mrs. Josephine Dayilim, the Director of the North-West Zonal Office, emphasized the dangers of consuming oil processed in unhygienic environments. She highlighted the risks of food poisoning, gastroenteritis, and even cancer due to inadequate processing and the use of corrosive equipment. Dayilim stressed the importance of using food-grade materials and maintaining hygienic production environments to ensure consumer safety.
This action follows previous efforts by NAFDAC to sanitize pharmaceutical practices in various markets. In February, the agency raided and sealed over 1,300 patent medicine stores in the Sabon Gari open market of Kano. Such measures underscore NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the integrity of food and drug products sold in Nigeria.
